PC monitors (see our monitor reviews) and TVs are close relatives. Usually, they differ in design and image processing capabilities and connectivity. TVs usually have more advanced image processing capabilities than monitors and come equipped with TV tuners and integrated speakers, whereas monitors usually have DisplayPort connections that TVs still lack.
Most TVs offer a PC Mode option, which removes the extra image processing and ensures the lowest possible input lag. The most important things to take into consideration when choosing a TV for PC monitor usage are the TV's supported resolutions, the ability to display chroma 4:4:4, and the viewing angles that can cause uniformity issues when sitting close to the screen.

Best Small TV To Use As A PC Monitor: LG 43UM7300
Usage Ratings - Version 1.3PC MonitorSub-Type : IPSResolution : 4kThe best TV for use as a PC monitor is the LG 43UM7300. 43 inch might seem small for today's standards for a TV but if you are using it as a PC monitor and are sitting close to it, this TV will offer you an immersive experience. You will need a large desk, however, to place it on. It has wide viewing angles and the sides of the image remain accurate even when you sit close. The UM7300 has excellent low input lag for a responsive desktop experience, and very fast response time so there is very little blur trail behind the fast-moving mouse. It can display proper chroma 4:4:4 in any resolution, and thus text looks clear.
Unfortunately, just like most TVs, it uses PWM for dim the backlight at a frequency of 120Hz and this might bother some people. Also, its dark room performance is lacking due to the low contrast ratio.
Overall, the LG 43UM7200 is an excellent TV for use as a PC monitor.
Best Large TV To Use As A PC Monitor: Samsung QN55Q80R
Usage Ratings - Version 1.3PC MonitorSub-Type : VAResolution : 4kIf you often use the TV for presentations, and you find the size of the LG UM7300 limiting, then check out the Samsung QN55Q80R. It is an excellent TV that is available in size 55' and above but is also much more expensive. It has a VA panel, but thanks to the TV's 'Ultra Viewing Angle' layer, the image remains accurate for wider angles and can deliver a more uniform image if you sit up close. The input lag is very low and the TV gives off a very responsive feel. Text looks crisp in any resolution thanks to the support for proper chroma 4:4:4. Finally, the very fast response time leaves only a small blur trail behind fast-moving objects like your mouse.
Overall, if you want a 55 inch TV as a monitor, get the Samsung 55Q80R.
Brighter Alternative: Vizio PQ65-F1
Sub-Type : VAResolution : 4kIf you will be using your TV in a room with many windows and plenty of daylight, get the Vizio P Series Quantum 2018. It doesn't have the wide viewing angles of the Samsung Q80R but it can get brighter to fight daylight glare. It is only available in 65' and it is an excellent TV for use as a PC monitor with great overall picture quality. When used as a PC monitor, it feels very responsive thanks to the low input lag. Due to its very fast response time, there's almost no blur trail when moving the mouse. Finally, it can seamlessly display the most common input resolutions with crisp text, due to proper chroma 4:4:4 support.
if you want the best large TV for use as a PC monitor, get the Samsung Q80R; if however, you will be using it in a large bright room, then consider the Vizio P Series Quantum 2018.
Alternative With Wider Viewing Angles: LG 55SM9000
Sub-Type : IPSResolution : 4kIf you think that the viewing angles of the Samsung Q80R are causing uniformity issues, then check out the LG 55SM9000. It can't deliver the dark room performance of the Samsung, and it lacks the FreeSync support for tear-free gaming. On the upside, the input lag is very low making the TV a very responsive to your actions, and it supports chroma 4:4:4 and can display very crisp text when used as a PC monitor. Thanks to the IPS panel, it has wide viewing angles and there are not uniformity issues at the edges you watch from up close.
Overall, if you want the best large TV for use as a PC monitor, get the Samsung Q80R, but if viewing angles are very important the IPS LG 55SM9000 is a better choice.
Best Budget TV To Use As A PC Monitor: Hisense 55H9F
Usage Ratings - Version 1.3PC MonitorSub-Type : VAResolution : 4kThe Hisense H9F is the best budget TV for use as a PC monitor. It has a remarkably low input lag and ensures a responsive PC using experience. It also supports the most common resolutions except the ones @120Hz but can display proper chroma 4:4:4 in the ones it supports thus displaying sharp text. It has great picture quality that looks great both in a dark or bright room.
Unfortunately, the image deteriorates when viewed from the side, but this shouldn't be an issue if you're sitting directly in front of the TV at a comfortable viewing distance. If however, you're too close, the edges of the screen appear non-uniform.
Overall, though, the H9F is a great overall TV that you can easily use as a PC monitor and comes at a budget price.
Cheaper and Smaller Alternative: TCL 43S425
Sub-Type : VAResolution : 4kIf you want a cheaper alternative to the H9F or are looking for a smaller option, check out the TCL 4 Series/43S425 2019 instead. The S425 is a much simpler TV than the H9F, with no local dimming, no motion interpolation, and a much dimmer screen. These aren't the most important features when using a TV as a PC monitor, so if that's your main usage, this TV is a great choice. It has outstanding low input with any supported format and supports the majority of the most popular formats.
So if you want the best budget TV for use as a PC monitor, you can't go wrong with the H9F. Otherwise, for a much cheaper and smaller alternative with some significant compromises in overall use but still pretty good for use as a PC monitor, get the TCL 43S425.
